Holy crap you really did your work, since I am not on top of movie dates the way you are, I will not take the hours or research that would be needed to come up with an answer the same way as yours…I will say, my favorite 1989 movie was Can’t Buy Me love. I loved Driving Miss Daisy but it pales in comparison. I know I really disagree with a lot of your choices except Rain Man was great..I also liked Crash and Rocky…but wish I give you a better answer…
Maybe:
Titanic,
Rocky,
Rain Man,
Schindler’s List? Maybe (I tend to find war movies disturbing in general, especially this one, because I am jewish, but I would say it probably is one of the best movies as far as war movies go)
Driving Miss Daisy

In a somewhat random order :~
Chariots of Fire
Dances with Wolves
Schindler’s List
The Sting
Forest Gump
I still haven’t seen "One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest"
The "Godfather" films don’t interest me.
I’ve seen "The Silence of the Lambs" three times, but it didn’t leave a lasting impression.
I boycott "Braveheart" on principle : filmed in Ireland with an Australian lead…

Hmm, that’s not five..I’ll try and take som out..Ok, I’ll take out Dances With Wolves and Silence Of The Lambs but they get an honourable mention at least. But after that I can’t choose. Six is almost the same as five isn’t it?

From the list you posted here
THE GODFATHER
THE GODFATHER II
LORD OF THE RINGS ( THE RETURN OF THE KING)
THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS
THE FRENCH CONNECTION
I could go back in time and find other fantastic movies ranging from Citizen Kane, Casablanca, Ben Hur, All about Eve…..to The Third Man, Failsafe, Sunset Boulevard, Cleopatra,…..ohh there are sooo many.
In my opinion, lists like that are insignificant. Where are movies like Taxi Driver, Mystic River, Apocalypse, Scent of a woman, The Shining, Star Wars, Casino, Goodfellas, The Bridges of Madison County, The Devil’s Advocate, Full Metal Jacket, Dead Man Walking…..
and No country for Old Man is such a shitty movie!!!!
